If I am connecting to the APIs from Salesforce - Do I need to register an app at my developer.ringcentral.com account first?

Basically yes.

Whenever you want to use our APIs in order to go to production you need to first build and test your app in the sandbox, then emulate enough of a usage pattern that approximates your production level usage and allow us to monitor your app, then you would request a production key from us.

Could you tell us more about what exactly you are trying to do from Salesforce?

Makes sense.  thanks.

Yes - it looks like the only SMS function is from the softphone.  I am going to want to send SMS's from a Salesforce Contact record.  I thought that I would just build an embedded visualforce page in Salesforce, and call the SMS API's to my RingCental account.  Just working through the oAuth connection code now.

Currently, our Salesforce integration in the App Gallery only supports click to dial, inbound/outbound calling, but not SMS.

It may be on our integration team's radar, but I'm not sure if it has been prioritized on the roadmap yet.

good to know - Thanks for the update.  It'd be great if you could point out this post to someone on the integration team - just so they are aware of others who could do some testing for them if needed.

Hello Matt,
Greetings !!  In case if you are not using, RingCentral has RingCentral for Salesforce integration App that provides a lot of call related features.

Speaking of SMS capabilities, I have a good news for you that we are working on adding the feature for SMS in to this App, we expect this should be tentatively available by end of this month.

You can always write your own integration as you mentioned above, if there is any specific question, please let us, for Salesforce integration with RingCentral specific question, you can directly email us salesforcecloudapp@ringcentral.com

Best Regards

Wow - That's great news!  Yes, we use the integration app for SF already.  Keep track of call logs, use the screen pop (wish there was more capabilities there), and other features.  In fact - the SF integration app WAS THE REASON we went with RingCentral.  Thanks for continuing to enhance it.  We will want to be on the cutting edge of using the SMS portion of the app.

We use the salesforce ring central app too, but never had much luck with it working properly and logging the calls, etc. We ended up installing the Callinize app from the AppExchange which logs our calls perfectly! It even allows us to log call notes, schedule follow-up tasks, and more all from a little popup window for each call. We don't even have to open the account or anything. Plus it lets us log the call on an account, contact or even opportunity.

Definitely looking forward to RingCentral providing an integrated SMS solution though, we will definitely check that out once it is released!

Good our developer portal has all the tutorials and documentation you need to develop your own integration originating from Salesforce.

If you need individual technical support I suggest that you search within the community first then post another detailed question or open a support ticket here
